Wanna hear a story?
There’s this virtual assistant – let’s call her Ruthie – who has been working from home for several years. She’s got a few clients whom she loves helping, but she’s restless. She’d love to start creating her own products so she can have streams of passive income. She’s also getting older and would love to be able to start crossing items off her bucket list. She’s got a creative streak a mile wide and wants to be able to use her talents for herself as well as for her clients.
But Ruthie’s inner critic is loud and overpowering. It’s a little like someone with a megaphone shouting in her head. Just when she’s excited enough to start creating for herself, thoughts like, “Where do I start? Who am I to think I could write a book? Maybe I should take another course/get some more coaching/join a new group/buy that latest shiny object,” start filling her head and eroding her precious self-confidence.
It doesn’t take long and Ruthie’s tossed the whole idea and gone back to her comfort zone of client only work. She tells herself she’ll start her own project next week.
Does this sound familiar?
It does to me, because this is my story. I’ve got more half-started products and programs than you could shake a stick at. This year marks my twentieth anniversary online, and it’s only been the last couple of years that I’ve been confident enough to really go for what I want. All because I let my own self-limiting beliefs hold me back.
Maybe you can relate. Maybe you’re ready to start a newsletter, or a podcast. Maybe you really want to do a Facebook Live broadcast, but your inner critic takes over and fills you with the same self-doubts that I’ve experienced.
Ask yourself this: How much better would you feel if you had the self-confidence you need to step into your full potential? Can you imagine what owning your experience and building a life that you love would be like?
It’s Not Too Late to Be Who You Are Meant To Be!
The potential for success is within you! You can achieve your goals and create the most awesome life you can envision for yourself.
But… when you let self-limiting beliefs hold you back, you allow yourself to play small. You don’t charge enough for your services because you don’t think anyone will pay it. You start projects but don’t finish them, because who’s going to buy it anyways. You don’t hire a coach because you don’t think you’re important enough to take up their time.
You allow all these negative thoughts, to play over and over in your mind like that old high-school song you hated but can’t stop thinking about. You let yourself stay stuck, not because you like being stuck, but because this is your comfort zone. You feel safe here in the land of limiting beliefs, and going out and creating the life you really want for yourself is pretty darned scary.
It’s self-sabotage, plain and simple. And it’s like a bully that won’t stop picking on you. The thing is, you wouldn’t let anyone else bully you this way, so why do you do it to yourself?
It’s time for you to fight back. It’s time to stop listening to the insults and putdowns. It’s time for you to stop with the negative self-talk, and start talking like you like yourself. It’s time for you to become the creative entrepreneur you know you’re supposed to be.
If I can do it, I know you can do it too. You CAN build a business and a life that you love; one that makes your soul sing, feeds your creativity, and makes your heart happy…. Oh yeah, and it will keep the bills paid too.
The first step is overcoming the self-limiting beliefs that hold you back.
Are you ready?
